Everything with India on right track
Referring to the recent meeting of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi in New York, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali yesterday said everything with India was on the right track.
“The results of the meeting... were very good. We are delighted," he told a press conference on the outcomes of the 69th UN General Assembly at the Foreign Ministry.
Ali said that during the meeting on Saturday, Indian Prime Minister Modi assured that India would always stand by Bangladesh.
The minister described the relations between Bangladesh and India as most important in South Asia.
Modi said his government was actively and sincerely looking for ways to resolve the 1974 Land Boundary Agreement and the Teesta water sharing deal, he said.
On the question about the exact duration of the Hasina-Modi meeting, he said it was much more than 15 minutes, but asserted that it was not important as "we see the results."
Asked whether the two Prime Ministers spoke in Hindi, Ali said it was not important what language they used for conversation but Modi felt comfortable in speaking Hindi.
“They are familiar with English, Bangla and Hindi. All languages can be used. We do it always. If I know many languages, I also do that. Nothing is wrong with it.”
