Ershad again calls for dialogue
Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad today once again called upon the leaders of different political parties to sit together to put an end to the prevailing political crisis of the country.
“Peace will not be established in the country if we failed to sit together for talks,” he said while speaking at a token hunger strike in Dhaka today.
He has already sent letters to the chiefs of different political parties including Awami League and BNP inviting them to a national convention to end the political standoff.
Ershad also asked his party men to say no to both the ruling Awami League and BNP as they failed to ensure people’s peace and progress.
Earlier in the day, Ershad joined the token mass hunger strike organised by his party in front of its Kakrail office in Dhaka to protest against the ongoing “violent politics”, reports UNB.
The party has been demanding settlement of the current political crisis through a national convention among the political parties including Awami League and BNP.
A large number of leaders and activists of the party including Ershad started the hunger strike around 11:00am, which continued for five hours.
Several top JP leaders including Ziauddin Bablu, GM Qader and Sayed Abul Hossain Babla also joined the programme.
The political situation of the country heated up this January, a year after the January 5 elections since the start of this year with the 10th polls’ first anniversary – the day ruling Awami League labels as “democracy saving day” and the BNP as “democracy killing day”.
On January 5, the BNP-led 20-party alliance called the nonstop blockade in response to Khaleda's confinement in her Gulshan office in Dhaka.
Though BNP chief Khaleda Zia is now apparently free from confinement, she declared that their agitation would continue for a fresh participatory poll under a nonpartisan body.
