Errant pvt universities to face legal action: Nahid
The authorities will go for legal action against the private universities that are not following the rules and regulations, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said today.
The minister said some of the private universities are using it to serve their petty interests by irregularities, corruption, setting up illegal campuses and earning excess profits.
In spite of putting continuous pressure, it is getting hard to bring them to the track and there is no way but taking legal action, he added.
Nahid was addressing the 16th convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) at its Bashundhara campus in the capital this morning.
He chaired the convocation as the representative of President Md Abdul Hamid, who is also the chancellor of the university.
The minister also urged the private university authorities to take liberal attitude in keeping all expenses including admission and tuition fees in limit, considering context of the country and socio-economic condition of the people.
Vice-chancellor of IUB Prof M Omar Rahman, founder President A Majeed Khan, Chairman of IUB Board of Trustees Rashed Chowdhury, and founding trustee Saifur Rahman also spoke.
A number of 1,163 students including 434 graduates and 729 under graduates were conferred degrees in the convocation.
Maeesa Ayesha, a student of English department, was awarded the honour of ‘Valedictorian’ this year.
Five graduates got ‘Chancellor’s Gold Medal’ and 83 received special accolades for their academic achievements.
