'Dol Utshab', the festival of colours, has been an integral part of Bengali culture for centuries. On the full moon night of the Bengali month Chaitra, people of all ages celebrate this festival, commemorating the love of Shri Krishna and Radha. The old Dhaka neighbourhoods of Shakharibazar and Taatibazar, and Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, take on a merry look on the day, as friends, family and even strangers are greeted with bursts of coloured powder, or abir, as well as sprays of paint, accompanied by rallies, music, blaring conch shells and trumpets. 'Dol Utshab' has surpassed the boundaries of religion and has become a festival for all.
