A weeklong Oriental Painting group exhibition opens today at 5pm at Zainul Gallery-2, Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka (DU). Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman, gracing the occasion as chief guest, will inaugurate the exhibition while noted litterateur and art critic Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam will attend the opening ceremony as special guest. Dr. Abdus Satter, one of the pioneering oriental painters of Bangladesh, will deliver a special speech at the event. Professor Syed Abul Barq Alvi, Dean, FFA of DU will preside over the inaugural programme.
The exhibition is featuring artworks by 22 contemporary artists including noted artists --Tajul Islam, Dr. Abdus Satter, Rofique Ahmed, G.C Trivedi, Debashis Pal, Dr. Sushanta Kumar Adhikary, Mukul Kumar Barai, Dr. Malay Bala and Kantideb Adhikary.
This is the 4th Oriental Painting group exhibition by Oriental Painting Study Group (OPSG) with the participation of noted and promising artists. Both former and current academics from the Department of Oriental Art of University of Dhaka (DU) and University of Rajshahi along with two academics from two other departments of DU will be participating this year.
The artworks, being displayed at the exhibition, have conspicuous connotations and reverberation of the opulent heritage and trend of oriental painting style. The purpose of holding this exhibition is to inspire both artists and art connoisseurs in searching their cultural roots and to nurture their very own art heritage. OPSG aims to open up a new horizon of Oriental Painting in Bangladesh.
An Assistant Professor of the Department of Oriental Art of DU Dr. Malay Bala, also the convener of OPSG, is the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition is open from 11am to 8pm everyday and will continue till May 6.
