A performance of “Mahua”, a dance-drama adapted from Mymensingh Geetika, enthralled a huge audience at Mymensingh Town Hall premises recently.
Sandipon Sangskritik Sangstha, a prominent cultural group of the district staged the dance drama at the three-day Boishakhi celebrations undertaken by Mymensingh Sheba Niketan, a socio-cultural organisation. Artistes from Nrittyadhara and Setubandhan also assisted in the staging of “Mahua”.
The celebrations included dance sequences, baul songs and staging of dance dramas “Komolar Banobash” and “Rupban”, by Sargam Lalitkala Academy of Kishoreganj and Mymensingh Sheba Niketan.
Folk artistes Neel Ratan Kanjilal, Monisha Ghosh and Dr. Tushar Dey performed on the concluding day of the celebrations.
Baul songs were the most popular feature of the event, presented by Sunil Karmakar, Jesmin Akhtar and Humayan Kabir.
Thanking the initiatives of Sheba Niketan, speakers at the programme said such performances encourage people, particularly the youth to realise the importance of traditional art forms. Sarwar Jahan, poet Amjad Dulon, Rubina Azad and Sajal Koraishi presented the three-day programmes.
