Mass media organisaton Ghashphul arranged a seminar and cultural programme at AS Mahmud Seminar Hall at The Daily Star Centre on June 7, to mark the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The seminar, titled “Bidrohi”, featured a discussion on Nazrul's iconic poem of the same name, along with a cultural programme.
Dr. Soumitra Shekhar, Professor of Bangla Department, Dhaka University presented the keynote paper at the seminar. Among others, Poet Nurul Huda, Dr. Mahmud Shah Qureshi, Professor Dr. Mansur Musa, litterateur Parvez Hossain, and Dr. Mostak Sharif addressed the seminar. Noted educationist Professor Shafiuudin Ahmed presided over the programme.
In his keynote, titled “Bidrohi: Moha-srishti” Dr. Soumitra said, “The poem is a timeless creation. No other poem can come close to its grandeur. Perhaps Nazrul himself would not be able to equal the magnificence of Bidrohi in his other works.” He also discussed the broad features of this poem, along with its poetic nature and strength. Other speakers focused on the diverse nature of Nazrul's poetic genius, and his outstanding power to incorporate myths from all religions in his "Bidrohi".
Following the seminar, cultural organisation Sadhona came upon the stage with their dance performance. Sadhona members--Amit Chowdhury, Sabbir Ahmed Khan, Zuheiria Mouli, Lamia Saiyara Mela and Shammi Akhter captivated the audience with their dance in sync with 'Mora Bidhatar Moto”, “Ganga Sindhu Narmada”, “Jago Nari Jago” and “Karar Oi Louha Kopat.”
