“Shunte Ki Pao”-acclaimed director Kamar Ahmad Simon's first feature film 'Shonkhodhoni' will be co-produced by Ddhoni-Chitra Ltd. In a meet the press event at the residence of the French Ambassador, Sara Zaker -- the Managing Director of Ddhoni-Chitra and an eminent cultural personality, made the announcement. She said, “A whole new generation of filmmakers is now coming up to take us to the world cinema... from Ddhoni-Chitra, we are proud to be part of it.”
Kamar said to the press, “Shonkhodhoni is a very personal film for me; it is based on my own childhood when I lost one of my best friends.” The film, dubbed “Silence of the Seashell”, was one of the 10 invited scripts this year in 67th Festival de Cannes at 'La Fabrique des Cinema du Monde', a programme designed by Institut Francais in Partnership with Marche du Film (World Cinema Market) and supported by French Embassy. Sharing her thoughts about their participation in Cinemas du Monde, Producer Sara Afreen said, “We had promising meetings with more than a dozen co-producers who showed real interest in our script… if things go according to plan, we will be working with some of them pretty soon.” The French Ambassador, Michel Trinquier said in his introduction, “I wish the very best to these two young and promising filmmakers who walked down the most prestigious international film festival's carpet, where their names were announced along with that of Bangladesh.”
Earlier, “Shonkhodhoni” was awarded a competitive script development grant from Goteborg International Film Festival, Sweden, and was invited at European Producers Workshop 2012 as the only non-European selection out of 24 scripts. Moreover, it was also invited to European Post-production Connection 2013, and Produire au Sud, Nantes 2013--a co-production platform of 'Festival of 3 Continents' held in Nantes, France.
