A commendable operation in Dhaka
We congratulate the law enforcing agencies on their successful operation in busting a terrorist hideout in the heart of the capital. Though the operation followed intelligence gathered at the last moment, yet in terms of preparation and execution, it was most effectively done. The performance of the SWAT team is even more creditable as there has been, reportedly, no loss of innocent lives. This laudable effort has been possible due to an effective evacuation effort prior to launching of the operation.
The quick follow up action after the July 1 incident has not only preempted the terrorist, as the prime minister has indicated, it has also engendered confidence of the people in the law enforcers. We hope that such drives will continue till the extremists are completely neutralised.
There are several points we want to flag here. Firstly, there should be no letup in the efforts of the law enforcing agencies in tracking the terrorists and catching them. Efforts should also be intensified to find their sponsors.
Secondly, the need for public awareness cannot be over emphasised. The fact that these people have, reportedly, been living in this house for several months without any other occupant getting a wind of their identity reinforces the need for everyone to be aware of any new faces in one's vicinity. The police should work together with the people to impress on the need to keep their eyes and ears open and warn the law enforcing agencies of any suspicious activities. At this crucial time we cannot let our guard down, and everyone, must cooperate with the law enforcers in combating this menace.
