Duta protests Nahid's remarks about DU admission test
Dhaka University Teachers Association yesterday said the recent remarks made by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid about the university's entry test were “unfortunate”.
The university authorities did not prepare the test with a motive either to harass the aspirants or to increase the failure rate, said a statement signed by Duta President Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary Prof ASM Maksud Kamal.
“Rather the questions were designed to select the most meritorious aspirants. It reflects the qualitative skills acquired by the students at the SSC and HSC levels,” it added.
On Sunday, Nahid termed the admission test “faulty” and “unacceptable” after only two candidates had secured required marks to enrol at the DU English department. The result of the Kha unit test was published on September 23.
The university authorities intentionally set harder questions so that only a few applicants could get through, he told reporters at his secretariat office.
Such test would ruin the candidates' future, make them feel depressed and destroy the country's “acceptability” abroad, he added.
