Drive out Fakhrul from JPC: Pro-AL journos
A group of pro-Awami League journalists demanded that BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir be ousted from Jatiya Press Club premises.
Fakhrul has been staying at the JPC since yesterday.
The call came from a demonstration of a section of journalists of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).
The protest began at 11:00am.
They will go for further demonstration after a meeting in the afternoon, reports our correspondent from the spot.
Meanwhile, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif called upon journalists to handover Fakhrul to the law enforcers.
“Jatiya Press Club is a place for journalists, not a place for overnight stay for any accused wanted in cases… journalists should hand him over to the legal custody,” he said while talking to the media at Awami League’s Dhanmondi political office, reports Unb.
BNP leader Fakhrul remained traceless since January 4. Law enforcers said to have searched his Uttara residence on Sunday but did not find him.
Yesterday afternoon, he appeared at Press Club premises to attend a programme of Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad and spoke on the occasion of BNP’s protest marking the first anniversary of ‘democracy killing’ January 5 elections.
His arrival was followed by a tense stand-off between ruling Awami League and BNP supporters. Fakhrul has been remaining there since with police outside.
