Docs, staff call off strike after 28 days
Doctors and staff of Thakurgaon Swasthoseba Hospital (diabetic) called of their indefinite strike yesterday as the authorities concerned assured them of meeting their demand for payment of arrear salaries for nine months as soon as possible.
Dr Nur Alam Mondol, medical officer of the hospital, said as the authorities concerned gave us assurance to resolve the problem soon, we have decide to resume our duties.
Doctors and staff of the hospital went on an indefinite strike on May 31, demanding payment of their nine months' arrear salaries.
Apart from work abstention programme, they also wore black badges. Staged a sit-in programme in front of DC office and formed human chain in Thakurgaon town to press home their demand.
Hospital sources said 12 doctors, 13 staff nurses and 101 employees are working at the 30-bed hospital that started its journey in August 2006 under a joint Health Care Development Project of Bangladesh Diabetic Association and the Netherlands government.
