Dismissal proved Rab men’s involvement: Fakhrul
BNP today said the government decision to dismiss three Rab officers from their services has proved that the elite force and administration were involved in the abduction and killing of seven people including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
"Apart from the Rab members, we have come to know that a minister’s son was also involved in the incident," BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office.
He alleged that the Sheikh Hasina government is using the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), police and even Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members to carry out the incidents of killing, abduction and enforced disappearance of opposition men aiming to stay in power illegally.
The BNP spokesperson said people cannot keep faith anymore on the law enforcement agencies who are involved in killing people brutally instead of saving their lives.
“People across the country have raised questions whether such type of law enforcement agencies are required. We support such opinion of people,” added Fakhrul.
Pointing to gruesome killing in Narayanganj, Fakhrul said the government should resign immediately as it has failed to protect people’s lives.
About Rab’s probe committee on Narayanganj incident, he said people do not have any confidence in the probe body as the elite force members themselves were involved in the killing.
Fakhrul said BNP will soon come up with series of programmes to free people from the fear of killing, abduction and enforced disappearance.
BNP insiders said party chief Khaleda Zia might visit Narayanganj soon to express her solidarity with the people in the city and to console the deceased’s family members.
Earlier, at a joint meeting of BNP and its front organisations at Nayapaltan office, BNP finalised a 14-day programme from May 27 including discussions and doa-mahfil to mark the 33rd death anniversary of late president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
