Editors of leading national dailies met in the capital, Dhaka, today to share their views on the challenges the mass media is facing at the moment.

The discussants focused on the issues arising out of the formulation of policies and laws and other government moves concerning the mass media.

Referring to the newly formulated National Broadcast Policy, he pointed out that the policy would throttle media, damage democracy and ultimately damage the country's growth potential.

The Editors' Council, formed in May last year and consisting of editors of the country's most circulated newspapers, aims at protecting press freedom, promoting journalism as a profession and strengthening the editorial institution.
