Dhaka suffers monsoon effect
People in Dhaka found moving around very difficult as drizzles turning into heavy torrent sent under water many of the city’s key thoroughfares today.
Beginning around 9:00am, the rain disrupted the movement of office-goers and the Eid shoppers.
Dhaka met office measured 52 milimetres rain till this noon today.
Mirpur, Mouchak, Green Road, Baridhara, Kakrail, New Market, Sukrabad, parts of Banani and Gulshan were reportedly inundated under toe to knee-deep water.
The incessant rain is a natural monsoon, which has been influenced by a low formed at the northwestern part of the Bay of Bengal, Md Shah Alam, director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star Online.
The rain will continue through the night and might be gone by tomorrow morning, the official added.
On July 2, the met department issued a notice asked the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla to hoist local cautionary signal number three due to the depression in the bay.
