Dhaka-Ctg rail service halted for 5hrs
Railway service between Dhaka-Chittagong and Chittagong-Sylhet routes remained suspended for nearly five hours as a freight train derailed in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria today.
Dhaka to Chandpur and Dhaka to Noakhali railway communication also came to a halt for the hours as trains of the routes move through the same railway track, said Abdul Motalib, superintendent of Akhaura Railway Station.
The derailment occurred around 12:00pm at Gangasagor Railway Station, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
A salvage train from Akhaura Railway Station however managed to remove the derailed train after 4:30pm, restoring the communication again, Motalib added.
Following the derailment, Dhaka bound "Mahanagar Express" had to wait at Kasba Railway Station and "Chattala Express" at Comilla Railway Station for hours.
