Dense fog continues, disrupts ferry service
Thick fog covered most parts of the country including Dhaka is disrupting normal life and hampering movement of all modes of transport including water vessel services today.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded in Jessore at 11.4 degrees Celsius while it was 14.5 in Dhaka.
Contacted, Shah Alam, director of the Bangladesh Metrological Department, said both the temperature and the heavy fog are quite normal in this late autumn season.
A cold spell is likely to hit the country on December 18 or 19, he told The Daily Star Online.
The visibility condition in this season is causing the ferry disruption, he said.
Over 600 vehicles were seen waiting at the both sides of Shimulia and Kawrakandi ferry terminals in Munshiganj in the morning as seven ferries– Kolomilata, Karobi, Ramshri, Raypura, Thobal, Lenting, and Raniganj – got stranded in the mid Padma river for five hours, Shekhar Chandra Roy, assistant manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (Shimulia ferry ghat), told our Munshiganj correspondent.
The ferry services on the route resumed around 8:30am, the correspondent said.
