Defence terms verdict 'unjust'
Expressing dissatisfaction over the verdict against war criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami, the defence said it is an 'unjust' punishment.
"Nizami did not get justice. It is most unhappy judgement, which is breach of justice. We must appeal against the verdict," said Tajul Islam, a counsel for defence.
"We are very much aggrieved with verdict," he told reporters reacting to the verdict on the premise of the tribunal that awarded death penalty to the Jamaat chief.
"I think that the tribunal has observed many things beyond its jurisdiction which were not related to the trial. It is not acceptable at all," Tajul said adding, "The verdict is weak and it will not sustain in the Appellate Division (of the Supreme Court)."
Meanwhile, Nazib Momen, a son of Nizami who was present at the tribunal, declined to make any comment over the verdict against his father despite repeated request from the reporters.
