DCCs get new administrators
The government today appointed two new administrators to the bifurcated Dhaka city corporations (DCC) ahead of its “long awaited elections next year.”
The move takes place ahead of the long-awaited elections of the bifurcated Dhaka city elections, which the prime minister has said will take place early next year.
Today, Dr Rakhal Chandra Barman, director general of the Department of Jute, was made the administrator for Dhaka north while Md Shawkat Mostafa, additional secretary (OSD) of the home ministry was appointed in the south part of the capital.
The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification, signed by SM Shafiq, the ministry’s senior assistant secretary, in this regard dated yesterday.
The appointment will take effect immediately, the notification said without adding how long the two administrators will be in charge of the offices.
However, according to law, the administrators are expected to be in office for six months.
During the Monday’s cabinet meeting, PM Sheikh Hasina turned away a proposal for extending the office term of Dhaka city administrators to one year from six months.
She said the elections will be held early next year without specifying any further.
