Day long festival of Charukala Barisal
A day-long festival was held on Friday with a rally, children's painting competition and an art exhibition.
Charukala Barisal, the only fine arts school of the city, organised the programme to observe their 27th founding anniversary.
The programmes at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall also included a discussion, cultural function and prize distribution ceremony.
Md. Gaus, divisional commissioner, inaugurated the events. A H Towfique Ahmed, divisional chief UNICEF, inaugurated the painting exhibitions of 150 artworks by Charukala activists, and Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner, as chief guest distributed the prizes of the painting competition.
Altaf Hossain, president Charukala Barisal, presided over the programmes, addressed among others by Salahuddin Howladar, secretary of the organisation; Milan Mandal, sculptor; Professor M Moazzem Hossain, president Conscious Citizen Committee; Das Gupta Ashish Kumar, regional president Bangladesh Shikkhak Samity; Shanti Das, president Sangskritik Sangathan Samanya Parishad; entrepreneur Bijoy Krishna Dey.
The speakers emphasised the need to spread the movement and study of fine arts at the regional and grassroots level to promote a strong national culture. They also called for a fine arts institute that would enable the study of fine arts in the region.
