Islami Chhatra Shibir activists of Chittagong University unit allegedly blasted at least eight crude bombs at two railway stations this morning demanding reopening of the university’s two dormitories.
None was reported hurt in the blasts at Sholoshohor and Chowdhuryhat stations, our Chittagong correspondent said.
A group of unruly people first tried to intercept a CU-bound shuttle train at Sholoshohor in the morning, said Shahabuddin, stationmaster of the station.
As the train managed to leave the station, they exploded three handmade bombs there around 8:45am, he added.
The group blasted another five crude bombs at Chowdhury Hat station just after 45 minutes, he added.
Talking to The Daily Star, CU Proctor Siraj-ud-Daula said Shibir men under the banner of general students are staging demonstration today demanding reopening of Suhrawardi Hall and Shah Amanat Hall, which was declared closed on August 24.
They might blast the crude bombs at the stations to create panic among the commuters, he said.
The CU authorities closed the two Shibir-dominated halls following a clash between activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, on the university campus on August 24.
