Ctg Jubo League activist killed
A Jubo League activist was found dead at Eochia village in Satkania upazila of Chittagong while a female activist of Awami League was injured in an attack by miscreants at Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj yesterday.
The dead is Md Alamgir, 30, of Churamaoni Adarsha village in Satkania.
Nurjahan Begum, 45, a woman member of Mobarakpur union parishad and resident of Kantinagar village in Shibganj, was injured as miscreants cut the tendons in her right hand and left leg.
On information, police went to Eochia village in the morning and recovered the body Md Alamgir from a roadside field, reports our correspondent in Chittagong quoting Shefayet Ullah, sub-inspector of Satkania Police Station.
The body bore stab marks in the chest, abdomen and back. Alamgir was assisting law enforcers in the on-going drive against Jamaat-Shibir men who unleashed anarchy in the upazila recently, mentioned the SI.
Satkania is a stronghold of Jamaat-e-Islami. Local AL and Jubo League leaders blamed the Jamaat-Shibir for the murder. The Jamaat, though, denied the allegation.
Victim's brother Jahangir told police that he talked to Alamgir around 9:00pm on Tuesday over the phone. After this he could not communicate with Alamgir as his mobile phone was switched off.
Contacted, local AL lawmaker Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi complained that the Jamaat-Shibir men, who unleashed violence in the upazila before the January 5 parliamentary polls, were behind the murder.
“I've talked to the deputy inspector general of police [Chittagong] and the superintendent of police [Chittagong]. They've assured me of immediate arrest of the culprits,” he added.
Khaled Hossain, officer-in-charge of Satkania Police Station, said police are probing the murder.
Mohammad Ishak, acting ameer of Chittagong South district unit Jamaat, refuted the allegation of murdering Alamgir.
In Chapainawabganj, a gang of miscreants attacked AL activist Nurjahan Begum at Dhoppukur in Shibganj upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Mizanur Rahman, OC of Shibganj Police Station, said miscreants attacked Nurjahan with sharp weapons when she was returning to her village home from Shibganj around 5:45pm.
Locals whisked her to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex. As her health deteriorated, she was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Shahadat Hossain Khurram, general secretary of the upazila unit AL, complained that Jamaat-BNP men attacked Nurjahan.
However, BNP district unit president Shahjahan Mia denied the allegation.
