‘Criminal’ killed in city ‘gunfight’ with cops
An alleged criminal was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Hatirjheel in the capital early today.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Police recovered a pistol loaded with three bullets and a motorcycle from the spot and also found Tk 47,500 from his possession.
A team of Detective Branch of police challenged a young man, aged about 25, due to his suspicious movement near Bangladesh Red Crescent Society headquarters in Moghbazar at about 3:45am.
Sensing danger, the armed hoodlum, who was on the motorcycle, fired gunshots targeting police, prompting retaliatory fire by the law enforcers.
The youth received bullet wounds during the exchange of fire.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Deputy Commissioner (media) of DB Masudur Rahman.
