Court clears 2 Ctg doctors of criminality
A Chittagong court yesterday acquitted two doctors of a criminal charge over negligence during a surgery of a boy.
The acquitted--Shurman Ali and GM Zakir Hossain--are the doctors of Chittagong Medical College Hospital and a city private hospital respectively.
On January 28, 2013, Delwara Begum filed a criminal case with a Chittagong court against them saying they had left a needle in the body of her son Amirul Islam after a colon surgery in the private hospital on May 30, 2012.
Later, Amirul underwent two surgeries, but to no avail. On June 30, 2012, the needle could be brought out in an Indian hospital, said court sources.
Defence lawyer Mahmudul Haque Mahmud told The Daily Star that as the doctors had no any previous enmity with the plaintiff, an intention to kill the patient or defrauding the plaintiff did not arise.
Considering the matters the judge of the court discharged them, he said.
The court, however, said a civil compensation case can be lodged in this regard, said court sources.
Rana Dasgupta, the plaintiff's lawyer, said they had a plan to lodge such case.
On May 30, 2013 police submitted the charge sheet against the duo.
