Country's key problem insecurity
The key problem of the country is insecurity, said eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday.
If public opinion is taken, a secure life will be highlighted as the major need, he said at a rally organised by Oikyabaddha Ainjibi Samaj in the Supreme Court Lawyers' Association in the capital.
The rally was organised demanding impartial investigation of the Narayanganj seven murder cases and fair trial for the culprits, stop to abductions and killings, and establishment of rule of law.
The jurist also said extra-judicial killings will not be tolerated anymore and demanded effective legal steps to that end.
Dr Kamal also stressed the need for a body for impartial investigation and called for modification of the century-old police act which could not ensure citizens' safety.
Human Rights Activist Advocate Sultana Kamal said when the people of a country feel insecure all the time, then the government must fulfil their demand for security.
President of Narayanganj Ainjibi Samity Sakhawat Hossain Khan urged the lawyers not to defend the perpetrators.
