Woman immolated over family feud
Police yesterday recovered the body of a housewife, who was burnt to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud on Monday night, from Ram Krishtopur area in the town.
The deceased, Rashida Khatun, 26, was wife of Mizanur Rahman.
Mizanur married his maternal cousin Rashida eleven years ago, police said, adding as the couple do not have any children Mizanur wanted to take a second wife, which triggered a feud between them.
Azimuddin, in-charge of emergency department at Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital, said Rashida's in-laws rushed her to the hospital with severe burn injuries around 8:45pm on Monday, and then took the body secretly to their house after she died there around 9:00pm.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Saber Reza Ahmed said police recovered Rashida's burnt body from Mizanur's house around 8:00am yesterday, when none of the family members were present.
Deceased's sister Tanzila Khatun alleged that Rashdia's husband might have killed her by setting her afire.
