Why govt won’t be asked to probe fertiliser graft
The High Court today issued a rule asking the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission to explain in four weeks why they should not be directed to conduct an enquiry on reported corruption in fertiliser sector managed by the BCIC.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah came up with the rule following a writ petition filed for seeking necessary order on the authorities concerned in this regard.

The writ petition was filed by Zakir Hossain, a former official of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) following news reports published in English daily The Daily Star and Bangla dailies Prothom Alo and Kaler Kantho about the anomalies and irregularities in the fertiliser sector.

The industries secretary and the ACC chairman have been made respondents to the rule, Mohammad Belayet Hossain, lawyer for the petitioner, told The Daily Star.
