Villagers in panic as tiger enters locality
The authorities have formed a five-member investigation committee on Tuesday night in connection with the killing of the Royal Bengal Tiger at Gulishakhali village of Nishanbaria union in Morrelganj upazila under the district same morning.
Meanwhile, appearance of another tiger in the area on Tuesday night created panic among the locals.
The inquiry committee headed by Assistant Conservator of Forest Mehedi Zaman has been asked to submit its report within the next three working days, said Sundarbans Eastern Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mahmudul Hasan.
The tiger that entered Gulishakhali village on Monday night was beaten to death by the villagers around 6:30am on Tuesday.
Before that, the tiger injured at least six people.
Autopsy of the tiger was completed on Tuesday afternoon and the body was buried beside the forest camp.
Hundreds of people at Gulishakhali, Amarbunia and East Chipabarikhali villages of Nishanbariya union got scared as another tiger was seen in the area on Tuesday night.
Informed by locals, men from neighbouring Gulishakhali patrol camp went to the village on Wednesday.
“The tiger's footprints were found but we could not trace it. If we get it we will try to send it back to the forest,” said Kalu Mia, a guard of Gulishakhali camp.
DFO Mahmudul Hassan said, “The patrol team members are trying to find the animal. It might be a tiger, or another animal of the same species.”
Fall of water level in rivers in the winter makes it easy for tigers to enter the villages, locals said.
