Veg vendor, medicine trader murdered
Police yesterday recovered the body of a vegetable vendor from Char Makimpur village in Manikganj Sadar upazila.
The victim is Mazem Ali Bapari, 45, son of late Bishu Bapari of the village.
Quoting victim's family members, police said Mazem went out of his house around 9:00pm on Monday night and did not return home.
Locals spotted Mazem's body lying in a field at the village and informed the police.
On information, police recovered the body around 12:00noon and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Away in Narsingdi, a medicine trader, also president of District Chemists and Druggists Association, was stabbed to death by unidentified criminals in Brahmandi area of the town on Sunday night.
The deceased is Haji Mohammad Selim, 70.
Police said a gang stabbed him at his house around 10:00pm, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries the same night.
Protesting the killing, the local medicine traders observed a dawn-to-dusk shutdown on Monday.
