US trying to resolve Rohingya issue: Bernicat
US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat today said the United States is trying its best to bring a permanent solution to Rohingya refugee crisis.
She said this while talking to reporters after paying visit to different registered and unregistered refugee camps in Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas of Cox’s Bazar.
She is leading a seven-member entourage in the visit.
She visited the unregistered Rohingya refugee camp at Leda village in Hnila union of Teknaf and talked to Rohingyas who have entered Bangladesh to escape persecution in the Rakhaine state of Myanmar.
“We have directly talked with the victims about different issues and have learnt a lot of things from them,” our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting her.
“My country (US) is trying its best to bring a permanent solution to the Rohingya refugee crisis and we are optimistic about it,” she also said.
She was visiting Nayapara Rohingya refugee camp at Hnila union till last reported.
Later, she will be visiting Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhia.
The Nayapara refugee camp at Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar, which was established in 1991- 1992 hosts around 19,000 registered Rohingya Muslims, while around 45,000 refugees are now living at Leda camp established before a decade at the same upazila.
