'US to continue support for CHT development'
USAID is working to improve the life of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) people, aiming at maintaining peace and sustainable development in the area, United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat said during her visit to the hill district yesterday.
USAID Mission Director Janina Jaruzelski accompanied the ambassador.
Around 11:00am, the US ambassador met with Remliana Pangkhoa, chairman (in charge) of Rangamati Hill District Council, at the latter's office. They discussed about the ongoing projects being jointly implemented by Rangamati Hill District Council and UNDP.
Gyanendu Bikash Chakma, member of Rangamati Hill District Council, and representatives of UNDP and USAID were present at the meeting.
“After signing of the CHT peace accord, many donors came here to work for CHT people and it contributed to the improvement of education, health, agriculture quality in the area,” Remliana said.
Later they met with Chakma Raja Barrister Devashis Roy and Rani Yan Yan at Rajbari in the hill district town.
“We discussed about the overall situation of CHT, including the development works and different aspects of CHT peace accord,” Raja Devasish said.
They also met with Jyotirindro Bodhipriyo Larma alias Santu Larma, chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council.
