Two killed as roof collapses during concert
Two youths were killed and two others injured as the tin roof of an abandoned school building caved in during a concert at Bhomra in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Saddam Hossain, 22, son of Shafiquar Rahman of Baliadanga village, and Faridul Islam Gazi, 22, son of Karim Gazi of Sekandara village in Debhata upazila.
Waheedul Islam, general secretary of Bhomra C&F Agents Association, said Bhomra Adarsha Juba Sangha arranged a concert at Bhomra Government Primary School field, marking the Independence Day.
Saddam's cousin Ibrahim said a number of people were enjoying the concert, sitting on the roof of the schoolhouse.
At around 10:30pm, the roof collapsed due to heavy pressure, leaving Saddam and Shafiq dead on the spot and two others injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
