Two friends found dead
Police recovered the bodies of two youths from Old Brahmaputra River near China-Bangladesh Friendship Bridge area yesterday.
The deceased are Sajon Miah, 20, a hawker and son of Chengu Miah, and Sajon's friend Emon Miah, 21, a day labourer and son of Abdus Sobhan. Both hailed from Patgudam area of the town.
The two friends went out of their houses around 11:00pm and did not return home.
Locals found the bodies floating on the Old Brahmaputra River around 1:00pm yesterday and informed the police.
Police went to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Quoting locals, Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said the victims used to take hemp (ganja).
The bodies bore no injury marks, and it will be known whether it is murder or suicide after autopsy, the OC added.
Family sources said they might have been killed by miscreants and thrown into the river.
No case was lodged with the police station concerned as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
Police said they are trying to unearth clue to the incident.
