Transport workers on strike in Barisal
Transport workers clamped a strike in Barisal today – cutting road communication to Khulna, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna and other districts.
Enforced in protest against assault on one of their fellows, transport workers say they will continue the strike as long as they are not met with justice.
According to Mojibur Rahman, Jhalakathi Sramik Union president, a bus driver was assaulted by an upazila chairman last Saturday. Transport workers gave a two-day ultimatum demanding justice over the incident.
“We received no heed from the authorities, that’s why we went for a strike,” said Md Bahadur, secretary of the workers’ union. “We will continue our strike unless our demands are met.”
Meanwhile, thousands of passengers were left stranded because of the strike.
