Tonu murder: Mother demands justice, bauls stage demo
Baul artists today staged a demonstration in Comilla protesting the sensational murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Victoria College.
The programme was held at Kandirpar Pubali Square in the town around 11:30am, organised by Comilla Gonojagoron Mancha marking six months of the killing, reports our correspondent.
Around 40 members of Ochin Pakhi Baul Society in Comilla participated in the programme, singing songs demanding punishment to the culprits behind Tonu’s murder, and later brought out a protest rally.
Tonu’s mother Anwara Begum and brother Anwar Hossain alias Rubel were present at the programme attended by people from all walks of life.
Tonus’ mother said, “Wasn’t Tonu a Bangladeshi citizen? Don’t we have any right to demand justice?”
She cried and said that they did not get any help from CID.
Speakers at the programme demanded identifying the perpetrators based on the DNA test report and their immediate arrest, and announced to go for tougher movement otherwise.
Tonu, 19, a second-year history student of Comilla Victoria College and also a cultural activist, was found dead near her house inside Comilla Cantonment area on the night of March 20.
Since then, protests have been sparking spontaneously all over the country demanding justice for the killing.
