TIB awards 9 journos for investigative journalism
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today accorded awards to nine journalists for their significant role in investigative reporting on corruption.
Three photojournalists and six journalists from print and electronic media were handed the crest and honorarium under six different categories.
Shahed Shafiq, staff reporter of jagonews24.com, got the award in the national print media category for his series report on coastal area titled ‘Kemon Aco Upakul’ (how are you coast).
In local print media category, Rezaul Karim, joint News Editor in the Daily ‘Ilsheypar’ of Chandpur, got the award for his 29-part series reports on corruption in education sector in Chandpur titled ‘Shikkhangoner Halchidra’ (scenario if educational institutions).
Shafiq Shahin and Badruddoza Babu, special correspondents of private television channels NTV and Maasranga Television, received the award jointly in the electronic media (report) category.
Alauddin Ahmmed and GM Faysal Alam, deputy editor and senior staff reporter respectively of Jamuna Television, jointly received the award in the electronic media (documentary) category.
TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman underscored the need for investigative journalism to eliminate corruption from the society and build a better and accountable future.
TIB Trusty Board Chairman Sultana Kamal and Jose Carlos Sanchez-Moreno, chair of International Board of Directors, among other, were present at the function.
The event was held at the anti-graft watchdog’s Dhanmondi office. A discussion programme titled “Media and Corruption” was also held for the occasion.
