Tension over new Jubo League body
Tension has been prevailing as two factions of Jubo league, youth wing of ruling Awami League, face-off in Kishoreganj upazila over formation of new convening committee.
In a letter signed by Md Omar Faruk and Md Harunur Rashid, Jubo League's central committee chairman and general secretary respectively, formed the 21-member upazila convening committee with Abul Kalam Bari Pilot as its convener.
Expressing surprise, existing upazila committee President Fani Bhusan Majumdar said it is illegal as the existing one was not dissolved as per rule prior to forming the new committee.
Meanwhile, two factions of the party, one supporting the new committee and the other rejecting it, chased each other at upazila parishad intersection yesterday noon that triggered panic among local people.
None was, however, hurt as both the groups retreated after senior leaders of the party managed to calm them down.
On January 3, supporters of Fani Bhusan formed a human chain where existing committee general secretary Golam Rabbani rejected the new committee and vowed to continue their agitation until the matter is resolved.
Abul Kalam Bari Pilot, convener of the new committee, said as tenure of the existing committee expired long ago higher leadership of the party formed the convening committee for an interim period only to arrange its council and form a full-fledged executive committee through voting.
