Teachers, students demand capital punishment of killer
Teachers, fellow students and locals held a rally and took out a procession in Mymenshing town yesterday, demanding capital punishment of the killer of schoolgirl Nazira Akhter.
They urged the local police administration to press charges against the killer, Shahjahan Habib Munna, 22, as early as possible and also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner in this regard.
Nazira, 10, a Class III student of Mymensingh Zila Parishad High School, and daughter of van puller Yunus Ali of Mashkanda area in the town, was killed by her cousin Munna, a private car driver, on November 12.
Detectives arrested Munna, son of Saiful Islam of Trishal upazila, from Sankipara, hours after Nazira was found dead with her throat slit at Bade Kolpa in the town.
Munna gave his confessional statement under Section 164 when police produced him before a Mymensingh court on November 14.
Since the killing on November 12, fellow students and local people held several programmes, protesting the killing and demanding capital punishment of the killer.
