'Stand against child marriage'
Everybody should stand against drug, dowry and child marriage and create public awareness against the menace, said Major General Sheikh Pasha Habib Uddin, director of Bangladesh Ansar-VDP department.
He said this at a relief distribution programme at Rangamati Cultural Institute in the town yesterday.
The programme was organised for Ansar-VDP,s family members who were affected by last month's landslide in the district.
“Our Ansar members worked with others during the Rangamati disaster successfully. I'm proud of them,” said the director.
Mohammad Shahidullha, additional superintendent of police, Lt Col Reduanul Hoque, commander of Rangamati Sadar Zone, Bangladesh Army, and Col Parvez Akram, sector commander of BGB in Rangamati were present at the programme.
The relief was distributed among 100 affected Ansar-VDP families. Tk 1000, 20 kg of rice, lentil and onion were distributed to each family.
Ziaur Rahman, 40, a member of Ansar of Rangami unit, died during the landslide on June 13.
“Mahi Uddin Zihad, a student of Class X at Bonorupa Al Amin Islamia Madrasa, is the son of Ziaur. So now we have to look after him,” said Director Habib Uddin.
“We will give him Tk 3000 monthly for his education,” he said.
