Somoy TV submits record of talk show
Somoy TV today submitted the record of a talk show aired on the trial proceedings of executed war criminal Mir Quasem Ali to the Supreme Court office in compliance with an order.
SC Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam received the records from Ahmed Towfiq ur Rahman, senior manager (admin and operations) of Somoy Media, around 4:00pm.
“I have already sent the records to the section concerned of the Appellate Division for placing them to the apex court. Now the Appellate Division will a decision about it,” Aminul told The Daily Star.
On August 31, the SC asked for the records of the talk show aired by Somoy TV on August 30 to examine whether the comments made at the show are contemptuous.
The private TV authorities were ordered to submit the recorded version of the talk show to the apex court through its registrar general by September 4.
The SC passed the order after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told that some of the comments of the talk show on August 30 on the trial proceedings of war criminal Quasem were contemptuous.
Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, a former Appellate Division judge; Barrister Tureen Afroz, a prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal, and Swapan Das Gupta, a senior journalist, participated in the TV programme.
Earlier on August 30, the apex court dismissed Mir Quasem’s petition seeking review of its judgment that upheld his death penalty for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
