Sinthiya Rape, Murder: 2 on 6-day remand
A court here yesterday granted six days’ remand for two accused in the case for rape and murder of seven-year-old Sinthiya.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Ashrafuzzaman produced accused Ahsan Habib and Majedul Huq Kaltu before the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court of Ramesh Chandra Daga, seeking seven-day remand for each. The court granted six-day remand.
Earlier, police produced the arrestees before the court on September 2, but the court fixed September 11 for hearing.
Sinthiya Akhter, daughter of Salim Mia, a mason in Fulchhari upazila, and a Class I student at Fulchhari Model Government Primary School, went to the nearby restaurant for buying breakfast items on August 31 and had been missing since then, police said.
Her family members searched everywhere but failed to find her. Her body was found in a nearby pond the next day.
Police arrested Ahsan Habib, 22, and Majedul Islam, 28 of the same village on August 31, but could not arrest another Akram Hossain, 30.
Local people continued agitation demanding capital punishment of the perpetrators.
Drive is going on to arrest Akram Hossain, said AKM Ashrafuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Fulchhari Police Station.
