Shutdown of settlers in CHT underway
Settler organisations have clamped a shutdown across the three districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts in protest against the latest changes to the local land dispute settlement body.
The shutdown that began from 6:00am this morning will continue until 6:00am tomorrow and will be observed in Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban, a local stringer reports.
Five Bengali-tongued organisations called the shutdown alleging that the latest amendment to Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Settlement Commission Act.
“The changes to land commission disfavours the Bengalis,” said Akkas Al Mamun, convener of the five organisations. “We have enforced the shutdown in protest.”
Last reported, the shutdown was underway peacefully in the three districts under police watch. No untoward incident was reported.
