Seven-day ultimatum to arrest culprits
Several hundred people of Rasulpur village in Tangail Sadar upazila have threatened to go for a tougher agitation if police did not arrest the killers of retired schoolteacher Anil Kumar Das and his wife Kalpana Rani Das within the next seven days.
They formed a human chain beside Dhaka-Tangail highway yesterday noon to press their demand.
Condemning the gruesome murder, speakers urged the law enforcers to investigate the matter cautiously so that none of the innocent villagers face any harassment.
Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan of Sadar Model Police Station said though they are yet to find any clue in connection with the killing, they are hopeful of arresting the killers soon.
Police recovered the bodies of Anil, 68, and his wife Kalpana, 55, from the drainage well of the septic tank at their house on Thursday.
The couple's only son Nirmol Kumar Das lodged a murder case with Sadar Model Police Station accusing some unidentified criminals on Friday.
