School ground made abattoir in Chandpur
Some local people slaughtered sacrificial animals during Eid-ul Azha at the Poura Shaheed Jabed High School ground using their influence, but they did not remove the waste even six days later.
When the teachers and students went to the school on Sunday, they found it difficult to stay there due to the stench of the animal waste. They used bleaching powder on the dry blood of the animals that was causing the foul smell, but the odour did not go.
It is alleged that sacrificial animals were slaughtered at the school ground under the orders of Chandpur municipal councillor also BNP leader DM Shahjahan. On Eid day, the councillor went to the school and had the gate opened.
Assistant headmaster (acting) of the school Rina Nandi said she heard that the local people's representative threatened the school employee to open the gate of the school so that influential people could slaughter animals there on the Eid day.
But the councillor did not take any initiative to clean the school ground afterwards.
Headmaster of the school Omar Faruque said he did not know anything about slaughtering of sacrificial animals at the school ground.
After the school opened, the school authorities informed the local municipal authorities of the matter. Later, female councilor and convenor of the municipality's education sub-committee Ayesha Rahman sent cleaners and had the waste removed.
