State telco asked to compensate Turkish firm $10,000
The Supreme Court today directed Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Ltd (TSS) to give US$ 10,000 in compensation to Turkish firm Netas Telekomunikasyon.
The direction came as the Turkish firm was dropped from a contract to install bandwidth transmission system from Kuakata to Dhaka despite being nominated as a successful bidder.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after disposing three petitions against the High Court verdict.
Following a writ petition filed by Netas Telekomunikasyon, the HC on December 12 last year declared illegal the process through which Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL) awarded the contract to TSS.
Later on, BTCL, TSS and Netas Telekomunikasyon filed three separate petitions with the SC seeking different orders against the HC verdict.
The international competitive tender was floated in May last year to install the equipment of 100 Gbps bandwidth to a second submarine cable.
