Robbers stab 5 of a family, loot house
Robbers stabbed five members of a family at Uttarpara village in Sreepur upazila of the district early Monday.
Of the injured, Uttam Dey, 50, and his two sons, Shuvo Dey, 18, and Shanto Dey, 13, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) while his wife Namita Rani, 36, and nephew Sajib, 20, to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
Quoting locals and injured Namita, police said a gang of 10/12 robbers entered the house of Uttam Dey around 2:00am and started looting gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and other valuables from there.
As the family members tried to resist the robbers, they stabbed the five and left the scene, officer-in-charge Motaleb Mia of Sreepur Police Station quoted locals as saying.
Hearing screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and took the injured to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex. Seriously injured Uttam and his two sons were later shifted to DMCH.
Away in Thakurgaon, police in separate drives arrested five members of an inter-district robber gang from Thakurgaon Sadar upazila and Boda upazila of Panchagarh districts the same day, reports our correspondent.
