‘Robber’ killed in Savar ‘gunfight’ with Rab
An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, early today.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain Anar, 40, the ringleader of a robber gang, our local correspondent reports quoting Lt Col Khandker Golam Sarwar, commanding officer (CO) of Rab-3.
Being informed that some robbers were staying at a tin-shed two-storey building at Kaundia in the area, a team of Rab-3 conducted a drive there around 4:45am, CO Golam said.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the alleged robbers opened fire at the law enforcers forcing the latter to fire back that triggered a “gunfight” between them.
After the “gunfight” Rab men found Anar injured inside the house. But his cohorts managed to flee the scene, the Rab official said.
Anar was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Rab men recovered three pistols from the spot.
Anar was accused of three cases including murder.
