Robber beaten to death in Noakhali
A robber was killed in a mob beating at Badalcoat village in Chatkhil upazila of the district on Friday night.
The deceased, Babul Mia 45, son of Sultan Mia, was a resident of Parkot village in the upazila.
Quoting local people, Officer-in-Charge Nasim Uddin of Chatkhil Police Station said villagers encircled Babul, a notorious robber, when he arrived in the area around 11:00pm. They caught the robber and beat him dead.
On information, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Babul was wanted in at least eight cases, including one for murder, filed with Chatkhil and Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, the OC added.
Away in Satkhira, police arrested a forest robber from Bashkhali village in Shyamnagar upazila on Friday.
The arrestee, Babu, 28, son of Kashem Sardar of Belekhali village, is also the second-in-command of 'Raju Bahini', a forest robber gang.
Police said one Kalam spotted Babu at his in-laws' house at the village and informed the neighbours of the matter.
As neighbours rushed in and chased Babu, he jumped into a nearby river adjacent to the Sundarbans.
Locals caught him and later handed him over to the police, said Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station.
