Road crashes kill 12 in Ctg, Gopalganj
At least 12 people including a policeman were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong and Gopalganj today.
In Chittagong, a pickup van rammed a human hauler after colliding head-on with a bus on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in Kasaipara area of Chandanasih upazila around 4:30pm.
At least 10 passengers of the human hauler were injured in the accident. Later, four of the injured -- Md Farid, 45 of Kaliaish, Al Amin, 35, of Chandanaish, Noyantara, 9 and Hazera Khatun, 60 – succumbed to their injuries at Dohazari Health Complex.
All the deceased hailed from Khagoria, our local correspondent reports quoting Habildar Md Selim Uddin of Satkania Fire Service and Civil Defense office.
Earlier, two passengers were killed and eight others injured as a human hauler overturned at Customs intersection around 6:45 am in Bandar area.
The deceased are Rakib Hossain, 17, helper of the vehicle, and Amjad Hossain, 48, a ready-made garments factory worker, said Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Bandar Police Station.
In Gopalganj, a microbus hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Chechaniakandi area of Sadar upazila around noon that left six people including a police official dead.
Among the deceased, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station Delwar Hossain, 32, and auto-rickshaw driver Azad Sheikh, 26, died on the spot, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting Omar Farook, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Rest of the injured Mujahid Molla, 35, Kulsum, 25, Sumaiya, 17, and another unidentified one succumbed to their injuries at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, UNB reports quoting Choudhury Faridul Islam, assistant director of the hospital.
