Power office vandalised protesting outage
A group of local people staged demonstration in Charfashion municipality of the district yesterday, protesting frequent power outage.
They also demanded ensuring uninterrupted power supply in Charfashion upazila.
Over 30 people equipped with sticks and iron rods attacked West Zone Power Distribution Company office, its office for receiving complaints and Rural Electrification Board (REB) office in the municipality area at noon and vandalised computer, stencil and other equipment to realise their demand.
Later, they held an agitation programme by burning tyres on Sadar road.
They got electricity only for two or three hours in a day in the last one week and there was no power in the upazila for last 24 hours, said the protestors.
Despite repeated calls, the authorities concerned are yet to take any steps in this regard, they alleged.
Sabuj Roy, acting resident engineer of West Zone Power Distribution Company office in Charfashion, said basically they have to depend on Bhola office as they have no sub-station.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Charfashion Police Station.
